Very RARE, Antique 6-gallon salt glaze crock. This crock is marked New York Stoneware Co. Fort Edward, NY.  6

The New York Stoneware company was in business from 1859-1885.

13" tall x 13.5" in diameter.

This crock has quite a bit of pitting in areas. The brown glaze is chipping on the inside. There is one chip on the rim. One handle is broken off however is included and can easily be glued back on for decorative purposes.

This crock's age is estimated to be from the early 1860's. George Satterlee was one of the first to establish a pottery business in Fort Edward, when in 1859 he opened Fort Edward Stoneware Co.

This item is rare not only for its age and size but also because the Fort Edward Stoneware Co.  later went on to make stoneware items with the buyer's company name stamped on the front. This is an original from when the company first started.
